Certificates of naval enlistment, 1862-1865 (bulk 1864-1865).

The adjutant general of the Commonwealth, as executive administrator of the state's Military Establishment, has been responsible for maintaining and reporting data concerning militia strength; these activities were intensified during the Civil War. This series of ms. notes and ms. and printed forms served to certify the enlistment terms of service of naval recruits at that time. It also determined the vessel to which the recruit was assigned.
